Monument Of Rizal In Sirawai

Rizal was born to a rich family in CalambaLaguna and was the seventh of eleven children. He attended the Ateneo Municipal de Manila, earning a Bachelor of Arts, and enrolled in medicine at the University of Santo Tomas. He continued his studies at the Universidad Central de Madrid in Madrid, Spain, earning the degree of Licentiate in Medicine. He also attended the University of Paris and earned a second doctorate at theUniversity of Heidelberg.

Rizal was a polyglot, conversant in twenty-two languages.[6][7][8][9] He was a prolific poet, essayist, diarist, correspondent, and novelist whose most famous works were his two novels, Noli me Tangere and El filibusterismo.[10] These social commentaries on Spanish rule formed the nucleus of literature that inspired peaceful reformists and armed revolutionaries alike.

Food – LOKOT-LOKOT [Zamboanga Rolls]

The Zambo Rolls is one of the Zamboanga’s best delicacies. Locally it is called “lokot-lokot”.

The lokot-lokot is made from rice flour, which is repeatedly pounded until it becomes fine powder. Water and other ingredients are then added and blended to create a thick mixture.

The mixture is then poured in a strainer with holes called ulayan and formed into rolls using two wooden spoons called thegagawi.
When it’s golden brown in color, it is set aside to cool until it hardens into the crunchy rolled floss of flour that is sweet. The sweetness of the lokot-lokot is comparable to Car-Car’s ampao but it is denser.

The artisan tradition of preparing the lokot-lokot is said to have come from Malaysia and that it was brought by seafarers who once mingled with the early dwellers of southern part of the Philippines. - choosephils.com

Sirawai LGU Holy Mass for Sec. Jesse Robredo

Sirawai LGU organizes and sponsors a Holy Mass for Sec. Jesse Robredo today at 5:30 , Sirawai Sto. Niño Parish Church.

The life of Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo ended tragically, but his legacy of effective and clean leadership will remain in the hearts and minds of the Filipino people.

Robredo, a recipient of the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award, brought with him 18 years of solid track record as Naga City mayor before he was tapped in 2010 to head the Department of Interior and Local Government, a coveted national position.

Up until the night before he died in a plane crash on Saturday, August 18, 2012, Robredo was focused on soliciting public support for the Full Disclosure Policy, an instrument that he hoped would advance transparency and accountability in local governance. – Sun Start

SIRAWAI OCEAN MONTH CELEBRATION

The richness of the country’s water resources will be highlighted this month as the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) leads the nationwide commemoration of May as Ocean Month, with May 22 designated as the International Day of Biodiversity (IDBD).

According to DENR Secretary Ramon Paje, the National Month of the Ocean will have the theme “Buhay Dagat, Buhay Natin” while the IDBD will have the theme “Marine Biodiversity.” Both themes, he said, will underscore the role that the country’s marine resources play in supporting human life. – Sunstar
